MN-Sen: Franken is not Lamont, Tester, or Webb (yet)
Wed Aug 22, 2007 at 11:05:23 AM PDT
I think Al Franken is running an outstanding campaign, and whoever wins the DFL endorsement (since it doesn't look like we will have a primary) I will do everything in my power to help that candidate take back Paul Wellstone's seat. I was however somewhat surprised with the Blue Majority endorsement of Franken yesterday. Here's why:
From my perspective previous Blue Majority, or Netroot supported candidates, have either been running against a DLC type opponent and/or have had the strong backing of their state's local netroots. Let's take a look at some previous Blue Majority (Netroots) endorsements...
Roanoke CBS Station Yanks Factual 9/11 Film
Fri Sep 08, 2006 at 11:44:20 PM PDT
While ABC stations are still planning to air "The Path to 9/11" WDBJ will not air the CBS 9/11 documentary after receiving complaints from the American Family Association. From the
Roanoke Times:
Wanting to skip a possible government fine, WDBJ (Channel 7) will delay the Sunday airing of the documentary "9/11." The film, which was shot by two French brothers on Sept. 11, 2001, will not be shown during prime hours (8 to 11 p.m.) but instead will air at 11:35 p.m.
"I had a dozen or so very explicit comments from people in our viewing area," said Bob Lee, WDBJ's president and general manager. " 'If you run this during prime time, I will ask the FCC [Federal Communications Commission] to impose the maximum fine.' And I believe that they would."
So what have we learned?
Right-wing propaganda that misleads the American people about 9/11: just fine.
A couple of four letter words: Too harmful to the public to be heard in primetime.
Al Gore: the second coming
Sun Feb 05, 2006 at 01:40:34 PM PDT
There seems to be increasing talk that Al Gore may be pushed into running for President again. He has a book and a film coming out later this year and he is likely the most popular potential candidate in the netroots.
But even if he doesn't run, his dedication on shedding light on global climate change, not to mention being one of the few to stand up against the abuses committed by George Bush, gives me hope for the future. Seeing someone that still is fighting for the people hopefully will give the courage for other Democrats to start speaking up as well.
NYT: Weicker May Run Against Lieberman
Mon Dec 05, 2005 at 10:58:46 PM PDT
http://www.nytimes.com/...
HARTFORD, Dec. 5 - Former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr. on Monday criticized Senator Joseph I. Lieberman's continued support of the war in Iraq and said that if no candidate challenged the senator on the issue in the 2006 election, he would consider running.
"When you've become the president's best friend on the war in Iraq, you should not be in office, especially if you're in the opposing party," Mr. Weicker, 74, said in a phone interview from his home in Essex, Conn. "I'm going to do everything I can to see that Joe Lieberman does not get a free pass."
Lowell Weicker left the Republican Pary after Lieberman beat him by about 10,000 votes in 1988. He became an independent and was elected governor in 1990. He endorsed Bill Bradley in 2000 and Howard Dean in 2004. I like him.
Time for another straw poll
Fri Oct 28, 2005 at 07:40:07 PM PDT
I don't know if we've had an October straw poll this month yet, so I thought I'd throw one up. Of course this is just for fun, 2006 comes first. But with the Bush White House in disarray, who do you want to bail the country out?
There's more...
