Cheney cheated on democracy! Fathered evil
Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 08:17:35 PM PDT
DICK Cheney, as records show, cheated on beautiful democracy by being a proven asshole.
here
August 1, 2000 | "Whitewashing" is the only word to describe the weak explanations offered by Dick Cheney about his votes on South Africa during the apartheid era. Ever since the peaceful advent of democracy in Pretoria, politicians like Cheney who habitually coddled the old racist regime have escaped accountability for their actions. And he is still relying on our customary national amnesia to wave away the questions raised by his vice presidential nomination.
For American conservatives who misused their influence to defend apartheid, the controversy over Cheney's congressional voting record actually presents an opportunity to own up to their terrible mistakes. Unfortunately, however, Cheney and his supporters have prevaricated and obfuscated rather than admitting forthrightly that they were on the wrong side. This disingenuous response is a poor start for a man who boasts that he and George W. Bush will restore straight talk and integrity to the White House.
Greenwald, Brian Ross and Anthrax oh my! Update #1
Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 07:44:31 PM PDT
Ross on charlie rose august 12, 2002
After a clip of Steven Hatfill denying that he had anything to do with the anthrax thang:
"We've talked to him(Hatfill) over the past three or four months. Long before his name was made public we were aware that his name had been given to the FBI by a number of his former colleagues at Ft. Detrick, which is the U.S. bio-weapons defense center. They were aware of Hatfill and they didn't like him there. He was fired in 1999 for violating lab procedures. And then he got a job with a government contractor and lost that security clearance for that job, August 23rd of 2001, just about a month before the anthrax went into the mail. So that started the suspicion that this was a person who might have a motive. He was mad at the world, in particular mad at the government. He doesn't think....
It tracks, actually, interestingly enough, a novel he'd been writing. About an anthrax-- biological attack on the U.S. Congress. He has been saying for years that the U.S. government is unprepared and they have failed to focus. They've-- He's been criticizing them for failing to focus on anthrax and instead focusing on AIDS. And that's a waste of resources.
Sanitorium officially insane

"Why are these snakes crawling on me?! Snakes! AHHH! Snakes!"
Oh Ricky. Did you have another doof attack today? You are looking more and more like little Norman Bates everyday. I know it is tough with your polls matching Dear Chucklenuts point for point.
Just who is fucking "still relevant"?
Wed May 24, 2006 at 08:32:25 AM PDT
So, it seems that comrad Rove or some other criminal in the BushCrimeFamily has told the media to keep repeating a line over and over. The slack-jawed, dim-witted jackanapes may put their own little schtick to it but, it is not their own thought. Correction. After getting their numbers on Osama, it WAS their thought some time ago. So why not cancel the show? The "media" canceled New Orleans some time ago. It was booted even before Arrested Development was! What are the newsmodels saying?
Is Osama Bin Laden still relevant?
BTW, you must say that line with a hint of sadness and a "why are we even asking this question" tone in your voice. Maybe even look at your fellow newsmodel, shrug your shoulders and snort or giggle.
I do understand that The Bin Laden Show was canceled years ago when W. stated that he frankly did not think about him. But just like any former ratings star, Osama keeps trying to make a comback. But, when the Big Guy at 1600 says he no longer thinks of you, well you have to pack your knives and leave.
Tony Medley:"Left-wing pop science gone mad."
Mon May 22, 2006 at 11:59:01 AM PDT
I decided to go to
rottentomatoes.com to see the reviews for
An Inconvenient Truth. I noticed that there were 2 splats. I also noticed the headlines for the bad reviews. Phil Hall from Film Threat:
"A 96-minute political commercial supporting the deification of Al Gore." The other was by Tony Medley and is the title of my diary.
I would not care if this movie got bad reviews. I would care if it was bad. Man I hope not. But these two urrm, gentlemen seem to have an issue with either Gore himself or with the "left" or "leftie", as Mr. Medley put both in his opening paragraph.
BREAKING!! Iran eats WHITE children!
Mon May 15, 2006 at 08:23:12 AM PDT
This week on Meet The Press, Vice-President Dick Cheney confirmed all of our worst fears. "Ahhh, we know they are a hungry people."
Andrea Mitchell reports that "According to White House sources, several key figures inside Iran are on record about this. One source with extensive knowledge told me just yesterday that there is 'no doubt' that Iran prefers white children over any other kind of child as their main course. In fact, this insider told me, after Iran is done eating the white children, some as young as 2, they then strap the carcasses onto extra-lethal SA-7 Strela ground-air missiles and ship then to Iraqi insurgents."
William Barr of Verizon and Richard Notebaert of Qwest
Sat May 13, 2006 at 11:56:47 AM PDT
I have not seen a diary on this yet. If this has been exhausted please let me know.
This webpage gives some information on good old Mr. Barr. He is the head counsel for Verizon and they gave him the "VP" name as well. As you can see he is very much a right wing kinda guy. If you scroll down while looking at his info you will see this:
Central Intelligence Agency: Analyst, 1973-1976
So we have a CIA guy deciding for Verizon whether or not the spooks can get our records?! More on Mr. Barr after the flip...
Richard Notebaert is the CEO of Qwest. Now Qwest a few years ago sold part of itself to um.........."Qwest sold QwestDex to Carlyle Group, Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe"
Here is the link to that quote. Now there is another
QuEST out there but this is not me getting confused. Update at the bottom of the diary with a nice link.
My bizarre morning calling the FCC & Verizon
Thu May 11, 2006 at 01:38:36 PM PDT
I posted some of my um, adventure as a comment to another diary. Someone suggested I do a diary on this so....
I was so wound up this morning that I decided to make a few phone calls. I did it on speaker phone so my roommate could also listen. She is not political at all. When she comes home from work I usually fill her in on the news of the day. She calls these my "rants". Anyway, I wanted her to hear for herself.
I decided to give Verizon a call first. Since Verizon was our phone company until we switched to Vonage a few months ago I figured our information was well in the web. So I used the contact information that was provided on the frontpaged diary.
(this is all from memory. Although most of it is so bizarre that I can still hear their words eating my insides.)
Chicago Sun-Times T.V. critic blasts media
Wed May 10, 2006 at 11:07:38 AM PDT
My favorite quote from the article [
http://www.suntimes.com/...]
"he is quite simply the worst communicator of all U.S. presidents"
So now we have comedians and T.V. critics speaking out at the dangerous and incestuous relationship between this administration and the "press". Next we will be watching the E! channel for hard hitting news. Jesus this is just so damn wierd!
"Burning your house down to stay warm for one night"
Wed Apr 19, 2006 at 11:32:05 AM PDT
1/3 of pregnant women in this country have levels of mercury that are above acceptable levels. 70% of our waterways are polluted to the point that you can't swim or eat the fish. In Ohio, oh my god, you can't eat fish from ANY river, stream, pond or puddle! Although I do hear that they have a thriving rare-coin business....
[http://www.fieldandstream.com/...] has a great article on their site. Considering the top 5 articles on the site at the moment, I would not call this outfit left-leaning.

Breitweiser KO's Giuliani
Thu Apr 06, 2006 at 09:56:53 PM PDT
Kristen Breitweiser
speaks truth to power AGAIN over at
Huffingtonpost . Ms. Brietweiser is one of the "Jersey Girls" and a former GWB voter. Before I get to her post I would like to say that I think it is disgusting that this government will not answer her and others who lost someone who are asking important questions. It is beyond sick!
I will only put a few short quotes so please go to her post.
Pot and hack docs
Sun Jan 08, 2006 at 10:16:50 AM PDT
Before I get into this, I just love this quote from the article:
"Consumption has decreased in the last year because of all the fuss about it. We need a campaign like the anti-smoking campaigns in the US. *This is one of the rare occasions when we should follow the Americans*."
ha! Anyway.....
This article from the Independent UK shows that some folks still are out to destroy the "weed". Can't we all make it alot easier on everyone and just remake Refer Madness every few years and allow a bunch of overweight suburban moms to scream and yell into the camera instead of trying to use psychiatrists to warn us? Sigh. Oh, just so ya know, I have smoked "the pot" twice since 1994. I am a Pabst and Johnny Walker Black man myself. I also liked 'Shrooms and Acid more than weed back in the day. So, I am not a pothead or anything close to it. Just a disclosure.
Holy Shit!- "Funny-Sad"
Thu Jan 05, 2006 at 10:28:25 PM PDT
This is just the most fucking who-lair-e-ohs article of the new year. No, it is not from the Onion or Foxy news. It is from the Independent UK. I am still burning calories laughing over this fucking thing. Whoooo. My goodness. Just a taste of how glorious this damn thing is:
They may have wondered if Mr Corneliusen had escaped from a prison chain-gang. But he had the forethought to bring the sketch of his bound legs with him in case of such confusion.
MoDo: It's not personal, Jack, It's strictly business
Wed Jan 04, 2006 at 07:21:54 AM PDT
Checks and balances are now as quaint as the Geneva Conventions. Congress is complicit in putting its thumb on the scale for the executive branch.
I am not a fan of MoDo. Sometimes though she can nail it.
Here is a great chart from thinkprogress

72 yrs later: A checkup
Sun Jan 01, 2006 at 08:47:14 AM PDT
I just thought that on a slow news day, maybe we should all take another(yes, I know. This has been done to death) look at this. I find it scary that people just shut their eyes and ears and open their mouths and rant and rave about nonsense. I guess the drive to be on the winning team is more important than truth or history.
"You are now witnessing the beginning of a great epoch in history," he proclaimed, standing in front of the burned-out building, surrounded by national media. "This fire," he said, his voice trembling with emotion, "is the beginning." He used the occasion - "a sign from God," he called it - to declare an all-out war on terrorism and its ideological sponsors, a people, he said, who traced their origins to the Middle East and found motivation for their evil deeds in their religion.
Swedish Gov't, peak oil & China
Sat Dec 31, 2005 at 06:41:32 AM PDT
Damn the Swedish government! Don't they know that peak oil is for tin-hat folk and crazy people?!
The Swedish Prime Minister, Göran Persson, has founded a non-political committee with the intent of making Sweden fossil fuel-independent by 2020.
PM Persson, why do you hate America?
Oh, and
this from Asia Times:
On December 15, the state-owned China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) inaugurated an oil pipeline running from Kazakhstan to northwest China. The pipeline will undercut the geopolitical significance of the Washington-backed Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC)oil pipeline which opened this past summer amid big fanfare and support from Washington.
Krugman: Heck of a Job, Bushie
Fri Dec 30, 2005 at 08:51:36 AM PDT
Paul Krugman has a great
article on NYT's(S)elect. I have a feeling that by the time spring shines on us, Krugman and the rest will be free again. I will put parts of his editorial on here but I thought this section would remind us all of what kind of ass Chucklenuts really is:
According to Newsweek, aides to Mr. Bush finally decided, days after Hurricane Katrina struck, that they had to show him a DVD of TV newscasts to get him to appreciate the seriousness of the situation.
Update: I took down large portions of his editorial. I don't want any problems for Kos. In the comments someone provides a link to the entire article.

Foreign Acqusitions of U.S. Businesses
Thu Dec 29, 2005 at 10:37:43 AM PDT
economyincrisis.org has a list of the U.S. Businesses that have been sold to Foreign companies.
We speak, of course, about foreign money. At our current rate of trade and budget deficits, foreigners need to purchase $2 billion in dollar-denominated assets each day just to keep the dollar stable, said Axel Merk, who manages $60 million at Merk Investments and runs the Merk Hard Currency Fund. Over half the national debt is now financed by foreigners, according to Roger Ibbotson, chairman of the financial consulting firm Ibbotson Associates in Chicago and a professor at Yale School of Management. That's been true since 1980, but the difference now, he says, "is the scale of the game."
