We need to Impeach a Senator
Thu Sep 20, 2007 at 09:24:07 AM PDT
We need to force a high profile US Senator from office in a very public and messy way. It really is clear when you think about it for a few mins. Democrats fear Bush and the media more than they fear the progressives and netroots. So they sell us out to them and figure they can ride out our anger. So far they have been correct. But if we could "impeach" a sitting Senator and force them from office, that would change the entire equation. It would teach them that our anger is not to be dismissed, and that in fact they need to fear us more than the media.
After all, as someone smarter than me once wrote (paraphrased):
"If you have the ability to destroy something, then you have the ability to own it."

My small contribution to the anti-war effort (today)
Wed Feb 21, 2007 at 01:26:15 PM PDT
I thought I might help Kossacks focus their anger over the war and recent Senate voting (obstructing?) by giving aclarity to why exactly our efforts are failing (and what you can do about it as American citizens.)
The most recent bill in the Senate, S.574, was defeated on Saturday due to a lack of cloture. This bill is the same as passed through the House last week, essentially offering a bid of no confidence on the "surge" and reinforcing that indeed all of Congress LOVES the troops. This bill was defeated, not by an up or down vote, but because Harry Reid could not gather the 60 votes needed to stop a potential filibuster.
But take heart dear friends, as from the last Iraq non-binding resolution, the number of supporters rose from 52 to 56. Four Republicans switched sides, if we could get 4 more we are officially in business next time.
So how can you help? Let's flip and continue...
The case for NOT impeaching Bush
Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 09:28:53 AM PDT
This shouldn't be a very long diary, I'm not going to hit you with a ton of facts or a lot of quotes. But there are two basic facts to keep in mind, and if you agree with these this arguement is strong: Bush is first and foremost a bully, if investigated he is without a doubt impeachable. I'm not going to support either of those claims, either you agree that the above is common knowledge or you do not.
For the rest of the diary, I'd like to explain to you why Nancy Pelosi is right and the last thing the new congress wants to do is impeach president Bush.

DKOS Must Refocus NOW to stop Congress!
Tue Sep 26, 2006 at 09:46:06 AM PDT
I don't understand why there aren't at least 3 headline posts on DKOS about stopping the abandonment of torture, NSA wiretapping, and habeas corpus occuring in the congress right now. Mostly I see election polls, election ads, and info on democratic candidates. The election is important, but over torturing innocent people and stripping away our most basic legal rights?
If we let the president have these powers, what in the world will the 2006 elections matter? In terms of history, I think it much more important to stop these measures from getting through congress than it is to win back a few seats.
To the politicians that post

Quite frankly I don't want to hear it anymore. I don't want to sign letters that go nowhere or get behind issues that will likely be sold out at crunch time (Patriot Act anyone?) But I have a sure fire issue that not only will get netroots support in abundance, but would also grow the party a much needed spine and fill both houses with Democrats this Fall:
IMPEACH.
Patriot Act Vote Wednesday AM!
Tue Feb 28, 2006 at 03:58:34 PM PDT
Just a reminder that cloture was reached on the Patriot Act today, the Senate will vote on the final bill tomorrow (Wednesday.) Be sure to send your senator(s) a letter to express your views on how they should vote.
If you don't know how to contect your senator, here is a useful link:

Let your voice be heard while it still can. If the Patriot Act is defeated here, it could be the end of this heinous piece of legislature. Get on it folks!
This is how you win

This is my first diary on DKOS, but I am a long time lurker. I felt it neccessary to post about the Alito confirmaion and the despair many of our posters (and readers) seem to be going through.
The crucial thing to understand here is that in politics the race isn't always to the swift, the battle isn't always to the strong, and commitment/patience is the most valuable asset you can ever have in any important objective. We're trying to change the thinking of a country here people, shift a culture of 250 million from the status quo (Bush, Repubs) to something new and unknown to them. Of course Alito was confirmed, we never had a real chance to stop him. But we fought with perseverance and commitment, and the fighting is the important part.
